1858 entire headed "(Duplicate) Demerara May 10th 1858" (being the date GB stamps placed on sale having arrived the day before on the MY 9 1858 steamer) with lightly creased and badly defective GB 6d pmk'd crisply struck "A03" to London with DEMERARA MY 25 1858 despatch dbl-arc. A significant item documenting the Second Sailing with duplicate of First Sailing letter.

1871 opened-each-end foolscap wrapper (232 x 103mm) marked "Per Book Post to be Registered" and "via San Francisco" to Edinburgh, Scotland with QV 4d, 6d tied WELLINGTON duplex dated JA 3 71 with London 27 FE 71 transit and Edinburgh FE 28 71 arrival backstamp, some peripheral edge faults and filing crease but exceptionally rare and probably unique as such.
With the termination of the route via Marseilles, the postage rate via Brindisi was reduced to 9d per half ounce letter on THIS SAME DATE of 3 January 1871

On AP 2 1865 victory of Grant over Lee concluded the Civil War, on AP 14 1865 Abraham Lincoln assassinated in Washington DC and died the following day. During the Civil War Delaware was a slave state which remained in the Union
